In addition to our FCAs, Lifetime Achievement Winners, and Early Achievers, countless other CAs do the profession proud each year-among them, the many CAs who devote considerable time and energy to their communities. This year, the Institute recognizes the charitable efforts of the following six CAs: Lydia Baran, WiI Clark, Ken Davidson, Gary Luedke, Chris Samis, and Geoff Stagg, the 2005 recipients of our Community Service Awards. (Look for a profile of the Institutes Ritchie W. McCloy Award Winner for CA Volunteerism, Hugh Hepburn, CA, in next months issue!)
Lydia Baran, CA
Lydia Baran has been singled out for her work with the Victoria Chapter of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC), a national not-for-profit voluntary medical research Foundation committed to finding a cure for inflammatory bowel disease or "IBD."
She first got involved with the organization after reading a volunteer notice in the October 2000 issue of Beyond Numbers magazine.
"You ran the CCFCs request for a treasurer in your publication," she says, "and it struck a chord. A good friend of mine has suffered for years with intestinal disease."
